Elemental Energy completes Acquisition and Development of, and Starts Construction on, the Innisfail Solar Project

October 22nd, 2019

Innisfail, Alberta, October 22nd, 2019 – Elemental Energy Inc., one of Canada’s leading renewable energy developers and investors, has recently completed the acquisition of the 25 MW Innisfail Solar Project in Red Deer County, Alberta from Longspur Developments. Elemental is also pleased to announce that it has commenced construction on the project. Innisfail Solar was developed in close cooperation and partnership with the Town of Innisfail, the project’s landowner. The project has had tremendous support from the local community – Elemental and Longspur wish to thank the many stakeholders for this support. The project is providing considerable positive economic impact to the local area and will continue to do so for at least several decades into the future.

Innisfail Solar successfully secured its Alberta Utilities Commission permit in May 2019. Elemental completed the acquisition of the project shortly thereafter and has continued to move it forward towards construction. “Longspur did a great job developing this project, and our team at Elemental has built on that success and is now excited to be under construction,” says Dan Eaton, Director of Project Development at Elemental Energy.

Elemental’s Brooks Solar Project was the first utility scale project to be built in Alberta, and Innisfail Solar will likely be the province’s second to come online, when completed in 2020. “The transition of Alberta’s power grid is officially underway,” says Jamie Houssian, Principal of Elemental Energy. “The solar industry is moving forward in Alberta, and along with continued growth in wind energy here, we are helping to significantly reduce emissions from Alberta’s electricity system.”

Innisfail Solar is being built by GP Joule Canada Corp, an EPC contractor with offices in Calgary and Toronto. The project will be built on approximately 100 acres of land owned by the Town of Innisfail and will generate long-term revenue for the Town through a lease and community benefits agreement. Elemental is providing the equity financing for Innisfail Solar and will be the long-term owner and operator of the project.
